Arran Highlights

With so much on offer, it can be difficult to choose how you’d like to spend your time on Arran – especially if you are only planning to escape for a short weekend break.

Despite its small size, Arran is host to a wide range of events and activities. Here are just some of the highlights from Arran’s event calendar. Be sure to check back before you book your trip – as you wouldn’t want to miss out on something of interest.

Brodick Highland Games, usually the 1st Saturday in August.  Heavy events, track and field, solo piping and highland dancing competitions. Arran Mountain Festival, usually the 3rd weekend in September.  Iconic mountain walks and scenery with a diverse range of activities and great evening events.

Arran Open Golf, Brodick, usually during July.  See the competition taking place at Brodick Golf Club. Established in 1897, the short 4,000-yard course adjoins the beach and features mostly par threes.

Goatfell Hill Race, usually during May.  Hill racers from around Scotland and further afield set off to tackle the challenge of running up and down Goatfell in the fastest time possible. The record stands at just over 1 hour and 13 minutes.

Arran Agricultural Show, usually the 2nd week in August.   Arran's big farmers show usually held in Lamlash, stalls, events, competions, fun for the whole family.

Arran Viking Festival, usually the 2nd weekend in August.   Held in Corrie and Sannox, fancy dress, games, stalls, events, competions, bonfire and lots more, fun for the whole family.

The McLellen Festival, usually the 2nd week in September.   A week of high quality, music, drama, arts and poetry.

Farmers Markets throughout the year, plus special Christmas Markets.

Arran Wildlife Festival
A week-long festival of walks, wildlife safaris, boat trips, family events, talks, exhibitions and film screenings, aimed at bringing visitors closer to the diverse wildlife found on Arran.
