The Shieling

Mrs Moira Logan The Shieling Lochranza Isle Of Arran KA27 8HL

Situated in the village of Lochranza and just yards from the shore, this ground floor apartment within a detached house has stunning sea views to the Kintyre coastline from the living room and double bedroom. From the village, with its distillery and restaurant, you can take the short ferry trip to Claonaig and explore Kintyre with ferries to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha all easily accessible. The PS Waverley calls in at Lochranza at various times throughout the summer. The owners occupy the flat above, and your privacy is assured throughout your stay. Please note that entry to the house is through the back door for ongoing covid protection. Arran is a fantastic place to see the second largest fish in the world, the basking shark. Frolicking porpoises and seals are frequent visitors too. There are mystical standing stones, a prehistoric burial site, a Viking burial mound and the natural cavern known as King’s Cave which inspired Robert the Bruce. The island has a scattering of pretty villages on Arran’s stunning coastline which are contrasted by a rugged and mountainous interior in the north. This is a natural paradise with sightings of red squirrels, golden eagles, red deer, otters and seals. If you need inspiration for your picnic, beach barbecue or dinner then Arran offers it all on a plate. With seven golf courses it is easy to see why this island holds such an appeal for golfers. For adrenaline junkies, Arran offers mountain biking, paragliding, canyoning, sea kayaking, scrambling and more! Beach 50 yards. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

Quirky Island Fact

#20 - Arran has Scotland's First No Take Zone
The Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST) is a local charity and was established in 1995 by local divers, Howard Wood and Don McNeish, who had noticed the depletion of species on the seabed. The No Take Zone at the north end of Lamlash, was eventually created, after much campaigning, in 2008, and COAST were instrumental in then establishing the Marine Protected Area (MPA) which covers the coast around the south of Arran.
